I think its incredibly important that Ortho was scared when he went on his mission to Sage island.

Ortho had to learn how to emote. It wasn't something that came natural to him and he did it to seem more approachable to others.

And now, with his circuitry changed, he's finally able to naturally feel those emotions. They're no longer a way of acting but a natural part of him.
